Making an Ark Dinosaur

Most of the concept work I post is heavily curated for portfolio presentation. Here's a post that covers a little more of that process. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes with almost any development cycle. The Gigantoraptor was another dinosaur voted by the community.

With most Ark dinos I generally start out with a rough sketch of a speculated reconstruction referencing fossils, paleo art and real life animals (Credits to Scott Hartman and Gabriel N. Ugueto). From there the design is then revisualized with a fictional twist to fit gameplay needs. The pieces shared here are some of the main beats during the approval process.

This process is overseen by a few departments. Credits to the leads of several departments- Jesus Conde, Catherine Rokitka, Lawrence Boye, Craig Brown, Amy Drobeck-Jones, Duncan Reed, and our AD Vic DeLeon for curating this piece.
